In the end I learn a lot and fix the gun!A lot of the older .22's were aftermarket drilled and tapped for the Weaver "N" mount that fit on the barrel, just in front of the receiver. Marlin did this factory from about 1953 or so on 39A's sold through Sears. If the barrel mount is what you are going to do I believe you need a #2 "N" mount.
