The built in swivel mounts are a nice feature. Some other models don't offer them and it costs you more to put on. I have shot my brother-in-laws 870 express before and it is comparible to the Nova in recoil using the 2 3/4 inch shells. I happen to like the looks of the Nova and I love the synthetic material.It's more like Beretta 1301 Comp Pro. That's why I didn't end up buying Beretta 1301 Comp Pro for its longer receiver. (4) The build quality of Benelli M4 is better than Beretta 1301, if not way better. Benelli M4 also uses a simpler "short-stroke" gas piston, compared to Beretta's complicated "long-stroke" gas piston.By the way, Benelli uses very high quality LPA ghost rings that are easy to adjust and can be fitted with different aperatures and front beads, including tritium. The Mossberg sights are, well Mossberg sights. Crude, yet fuctional. Look up the cost of a set of LPA ghost rings to add to a gun and the price of a Nova starts looking really nice.

The only one that I still have at home is the Benelli Supernova. I suggest holding all three if you can and shooting them. If you want a 28 inch barrel you want to consider the Mossberg 500, not the 590. The 590 only has up to 20 inch barrels: it's a dedicated tactical platform. The 500 is more general purpose.

When the Nova came out I bought one and sold my 835. I personally prefer the Nova for a few reasons. First, its lighter. Second, I feel it has a better action, and for me it is easier to cycle.
